What is QUID (Quantitative Ingredient Declaration), and when do I need it?
QUID stands for Quantitative Ingredient Declaration. In plain words, it means saying how much of an ingredient is in your product, as a percentage.
When you need it
If your pack draws attention to an ingredient, the law says you have to show how much of it is in there. That's so shoppers aren't misled. A "strawberry yoghurt" with a big picture of strawberries should tell you whether it's 2% strawberry or 20%.
You need QUID when an ingredient:
- is in the product name. "Chocolate chip cookie" needs the chocolate chips percentage. "Chicken and mushroom pie" needs both the chicken and the mushroom.
- is highlighted in words on pack. "Made with real butter" needs the butter percentage.
- is shown in a picture. A granola pack with a photo of almonds needs the almonds percentage, even if almonds aren't in the name.
What it looks like
The percentage goes next to the ingredient in your ingredients list. For example: "Oats, honey, almonds (12%), sunflower seeds..."
Canoli works out the percentage from your recipe, adds it to your ingredients list, and keeps it up to date if your recipe changes.
