The Canoli news reader
What it is
If you saw Canoli/1.0 (+https://canoli.co.uk/bot) in your logs, that was us. It is a small program we call dragnet. It reads public news feeds about the food and drink industry, so we can tell our customers about recalls, rule changes and costs that affect their business.
What it fetches
It fetches the RSS, Atom and JSON news feeds that publishers make public, and nothing else. Most feeds are fetched about once a day, and product recall feeds about once an hour. It keeps the headline, the link, the dates and the feed's own summary. It does not visit your article pages, and our customers see links to your site, not copies of your work.
How it behaves
It always gives this name. It never pretends to be a browser. It sends conditional requests, so an unchanged feed costs you almost nothing. If your site refuses it, it stops and does not try another way in. If we ever read article pages, we will say so here first.
Contact or opt out
To ask us to stop, to fetch less often, or to give us feedback, email hello@canoli.co.uk with your site's name. We act on every request.
